    Hi there stinand,

I was actually wondering the same thing and checked with the Town of Oakville. I received a prompt response explaining everything.

    From the Town:

“The pond, which was constructed as part of the Mattamy Preserve Development, is what we refer to as a Stormwater Management Pond Facility. The pond is engineered to collect all the drainage from the subdivision and meant to hold back water to prevent flooding and erosion during large rain events and is also to meant to filter out sediment, dirt and chemicals before being released to the natural creek system.

The pond is currently maintained by the developer and as part of their obligations they must carry out the removal of sediment that has accumulated in the pond, to date, before the Town takes over control of the facility. Sediment removal is one of the most important maintenance activities for SWMPs to ensure they function as intended and will be carried out on average every 5 to 10 years.

Attached is the notice that went out to resident and business in the area. I apologize that this notice did not make it to you. The timing in the letter is a bit off as rains have delayed works a bit. The pond work will be completed shortly and the site restored to existing conditions.”
